There are numerous approaches, attitudes and beliefs about Colonics. As it evolved from Bernard Jensen's original extensions from enemas, it took on a life beyond him, and has resulted in what is now defined as the clinical practice that most people know today. To put this back in its proper context it may be useful to take a look at the pros and cons of these highly mechanisation forms versus the simplicity of the original ideas.
The ability to clean one's Colon alone Versus using a machine
The machine which inflates and deflates the Large Intestine with water at given intervals, contains powerful pumps and valves to perform this task. The Hydrotherapist denotes when each inflation phase is complete, and initiates the next, while massaging the abdominal area. As with most medical procedures, it is sterile and convenient, with the therapist doing the work, and making the decisions, through the array of gauges and valves, controlling the pump and suction chambers.
The client of this procedure gains a cleaner Colon, yet remains a client forever- believing that Colon health is in the hands of a stranger and a machine. This need not be so.
The Home Colonic is a much gentler process, involving simply a bucket, a colonic board, a toilet and a tube. As the only force used is gravity, the client themselves gets to make all the decisions about timing. Basically, it puts the client in the driver's seat and the therapist becomes an assistant and advisor to the specific needs of the client.
A beautiful example is the massage procedure, which is one of the therapist's major roles, will be taught to the client throughout the sessions. Usually 1 or 2 courses are enough to become proficient, and by then sufficient confidence has been built to go through all aspects of the Colonic procedure alone.
Effects of receiving specialized treatments Versus learning the 'How to' of basic procedures
In visiting a Mechanized Colonic therapist, you are paying not only for the special treatment, but also for their training in the use of a powerful machine and the expensive machine itself.
You will probably enjoy the friendliness of the therapist, but there is not much room for emotional or true energetic expression. These often accompany toxic releases.
You get a lot from the exchange, but the management of this is still in another's hands. Your only choice is when to return for another session.
If the thought "well, I could do that at home now" occurs to you, then we have been successful!
While using the Colonic board, the first thing you will note is the simplicity of the system, which you will be taught to construct yourself.
During a 10 day course you find sufficient room to relax into the process and will naturally leave with an experiential education of Colonics: Physiologically - you have a cleaner Colon; Emotionally - you might have expressed associated memories and feelings held in the Peristaltic muscles; Physically -you have increased your knowledge of how your system works; Psychologically - you are empowered by knowing that it was YOU that just cleaned your Colon, and You can do it again - alone.
Undergoing Colonic sessions within the framework of your life: "intensive" Versus "sporadic"
Visiting a therapist for an hour or so, undergoing the treatment, and then returning to your daily world is an efficient way to introduce a cleanse into a busy life. It allows you to continue your regular schedule almost uninterrupted.
Yet, if there is any emotional release from the cleanse that just happened, it receives no special space and time allocation, before it is swept aside by the next engagement. You might find the experience to be lacking integration.
Furthermore, all the Mucoid Plaque that is shed during the mechanized Colonic session is held within a very sterile medium for obvious reasons, and a brief examination is sometimes given.
Always it is treated with distaste as a diseased material to be flushed as far away and as soon as possible.
Colonics are a great instigator of emotional reflection upon the past, as the Colon's muscle structure is home to so many long-held tensions. Everything from potty-training to social fears can be held there, and with the massaging effects of the Colonics, and the detoxing of these muscles, more than just mucous is shed. Entire nerve systems can reflex out of a suffocating stricture that they have been locked into for years, and this WILL have an effect upon the being as a whole. Whilst on retreat, you have ensured yourself the space and time to travel through everything that comes up.
The greatest motivating factor in any kind of detox, is the faith that this venture is worthwhile. And there is no greater motivator than seeing the putrid material that has been held in pockets in the Colon for a lifetime. Slowly the distaste fades and a new relationship is born between the person and their bowel. This in turn goes along way to healing the different feelings of separation between mind and body.
Both types will find their way back, but you can choose which one to feed
By undergoing regular mechanized Colonic treatments - the detrimental loss of friendly bacterial is significant.
After every session these microbes must be reintroduced to the bowel - usually via quite expensive capsule forms that have debatable effects.
This "need" for pharmacology further enhances the distance and disempowerment of having to look for and BUY health, outside of yourself!
A week-long course, once a year, minimizes bacterial losses. It means that there is only one washout and reinhabitation of bacteria every year.
Moreover, this course will teach how to create the lactobacteria yourself, through the controlled fermentation of vegetables, and thus cut out the cost of the pharmaceuticals.
This process enhances a personal relationship to both your body and your health, not to mention the processes of nature upon which you rely.
